My third piece for The Independent was published today. I spoke to three filmmakers about their approaches to self-marketing their independent films: Bill Daniel, the creator of DIY documentary Who is Bozo Texino?; Gadi Harel, co-director of the indie horror film Deadgirl; and Sterlin Harjo, the writer-director of Barking Water. These three filmmakers approached marketing their work in very different ways with very different motivations. It's an interesting look at the independent filmmaking process, I think, and sheds some light on an aspect of it that's pervasive yet, at the same time, taken for granted.
